Rat problem?????HELP

We recently bought a new home a couple months ago and we noticed there’s a rat problem in the attic and maybe in the walls....we keep hearing noises so we called a few exterminators and they’re all $5,000+++ we really can’t afford it. We tried going up on our own with masks and ventilators and we made a mix of bleach, baking soda and water to spray up there for the rat poop, got most of it cleaned up we couldn’t get some parts and we thought we sealed up everything but now we hear even more noise and it’s taking a toll on me. I don’t know what to do anymore 😭😭😭 right now with all this corona virus stuff it’s just worse, since we’re both not working and only have one small income now. Has anyone had any type of issues like this and what did you do? We’ve tried rat traps and cleaning as much as we could but nothing.

You may have no choice but to use an exterminator at some point, if theres a lot of poop and your hearing noises chances are there is a nest of rats and its going to be an issue. Rats are pretty nasty and you dont want them to travel to your kitchen. I would try and find spray and traps in the meantime

You will have to buy a lot of rat traps I mean loads and a big jar of peanut butter put the peanut butter on traps all over attic and keep found this for two weeks and that should help and to keep them out of your house use peppermint mixed with water let me know how you get on I never had rats in house but dh has them in his truck it worked wonders

You could try to just put poison out all over the attic. Put it with some food. It will start to stink really bad when they die so you’ll have to check often.

Rats reproduce every 3 weeks between 8-15 babies!! They spread fast.  I had rats in my garage this summer.  Luckily I caught it fast and my dads friend is an exterminator and came and took care of it for free.  I caught it early so there were only 2.  I filled in any holes in the ground that they could get into.  They burrow and like clutter.  So I cleaned up some bushes in the yard and haven’t had an issue since.  I’d say rat traps and poison are where to start but if there are that many then you’re probably going to need a professional.  Sorry and Goodluck.

If you're in a terraced/semi detached house, check the soffits and fascias for gaps- especially near to the house next door. Often, they climb on the roof and can travel from attic to attic in the soffit space. Peppermint oil soaked cotton balls randomly thrown in the attic helps, as do plenty of baited snap-back traps, although you will need to check them regularly. Sonic plug in devices in every room will help prevent return entry.
