Contraction question

38+3 and I went to l and d yesterday for contractions between 5 and 7 minutes. They told me not to come back until they were closer together bit they’re so painful I can’t sleep. They’re ranging from 4 to 6 minutes apart now and really painful to the point where I’m in tears. What should I do?

I also lost a piece of my mucus plug last night.
