How do I tell my now boyfriend that I’m not a virgin?

The guy I’ve been dating I’ve been dating him for seven almost 8 months and before him I was in a year and a half long abusive relationship after I broke it off with my ex a couple months after that I had sex for the first time with a friend of mine. I’m almost 18 and I’ve only done it that one time. But I haven’t told my now boyfriend that I’m not a virgin because he’s very Catholic and I am scared of how he will take it. I know what I did and the situation in itself if I had known more I wouldn’t of had sex with a guy but it happened and it was over a year ago. I was a different person I was emotionally unstable just not in a good place and it happened and I can’t take it back.

My friend tonight including my boyfriend were all joking around in a call and somebody mentioned a joke about a V card and I joked about not having it, I didn’t think anybody would pick up on it because a lot of the things I was saying we’re just sliding under the radar. And he texts me telling me that we need to call later. I don’t know how to tell him. I’m just scared.
