Is an atheist baptizing their child a lie?

Ju

I’m atheist and my SO is agnostic. We were talking about kids the other day and I asked if he would want to baptize our children and he said “sure, why not. It doesn’t hurt to do it.”

And he’s right, of course baptism wouldn’t hurt a baby. I’m still on the fence not because I think it would harm the child. And it would make my parents happy for us to do it and all. I just kind of feel like as an atheist It would be a big lie.

I used to be extremely religious, to the point that I wanted to be a youth pastor. That obviously changed, but point is I know about baptism. I know the things you say and the vows you take to raise your child in the church.

Not to mention, I’m completely opposed to ever stepping foot in my family’s church ever again and we obviously don’t have a church and his family doesn’t really have one either so where would we even do it?

It just makes me uncomfortable, the idea of standing up in front of our loved ones telling a lie.
