Doppler?

Question

Before I start the “this is why you shouldn’t have a Doppler” comments, my MIL bought us a Doppler because my husband will not be allowed in any of my upcoming appointments and I’m not allowed to video tape.
I’m 11 Weeks and we tried to find the heartbeat but no luck. 
Has anyone else tried to find the heartbeat at 11 weeks, had no luck and went in for their 12 a Week Ultrasound and they found one? 
I go Monday and I’m so eager but so nervous!

11 weeks is still a bit early, but with some trying you should be able to find it. Here's my process:
1. Start by propping a pillow under your butt/lower back
2. Lie down with your legs straight out, not with your knees bent.
3. Use a pretty good amount of gel especially since you don't know where baby is yet
4. Starting just above your pubic hairline, to the outside of your uterus (pick one side to start), find your own heartbeat. It'll be low and inside your pubic bone.
5. VERY slowly move the wand in towards your bellybutton. As you move it each time, angle the wand around an listen for a faster heartbeat than what you heard for yourself. The movements you make with the wand should be tiny, baby's heartbeat shouldn't be too far away from yours (too small to be centered on your belly).
6. You are listening for the sound of a locomotive or galloping like horses, it can sound like either depending on the doppler angle. A wooshing airy sound is the placenta.
7. If you get to the middle and haven't heard it, repeat the steps starting from the other side. You'll find your heartbeat on both, but baby will only be on one side. My midwife found baby on the right at 12 weeks and now I find him on the left.
Take your time and try not to be discouraged, it's early and sometimes even doctors have trouble when everything is perfectly ok.

The important thing to remember about dopplers is that they are a medical device and you aren’t trained in their use. Neither and I and I have one so I’m not hating. I don’t know what brand you have but some are better than others. Just remember that when you can’t find baby it doesn’t mean anything is wrong. Baby is small right now and can be tricky to find. You are probably looking way too high. You should be looking near you pubic bone.

I'm 11w4d and only just finding the heartbeat.
But I have to put a cushion under my back, and weirdly have an empty bladder. But even then, it's super hard to find and often lose it after a couple of seconds. Try not to panic x

Baby is still really little at 11 weeks. Also are you looking down low close to your pelvic bone?

Yeah really make sure you’re getting down near your pelvic bone baby is very low right now

My dr doesn’t even listen for the heartbeat until 12 weeks because she said it’s hard to find before that and it freaks moms out. It is probably just too soon

It’s probably just too soon, and baby’s too little! Everything is more than likely just fine
