How accurate are size estimates during ultrasounds?

Just had an ultrasound, will be 35 weeks on Friday. Tech estimated babys weight as 6lbs 14oz😮😮😮😮
And said baby was measuring around 37 weeks. I asked the dr how accurate those readings were but they didnt really answer my question just kept saying they will continue to monitor babys growth.

The estimates can be off by as much as 1-2lbs... which is a big difference when we’re talking about something you have to push through your vagina...

With my son, I was told 3 days before he was born that he was measuring 9 lbs... After pushing for what felt like forever, turned out he was almost ELEVEN POUNDS! So yeah the Dr was way off. I’m happy she was tho because otherwise I would’ve been absolutely petrified giving birth to a baby of that size

I think they can be off by something like 25%. So if they tell you the baby is 8 lbs it could be anywhere from 6-10 lbs.

It definitely just all depends. I’m an OB sonographer, and I’ve had times where I’m right on the money with a weight-and other times it’s a bit harder. When baby is bigger and all squished up, it makes it more difficult to get a good estimate👌

They estimated both of my boys to be around 9 pounds. They both came out 9 lbs. 2 oz.  Mine were very close. ￼

My doctor told me firstborn was going to be 8+ lbs. He was barely 6lbs.

The later in pregnancy you are, the bigger the margin of error is. I think at 36 weeks it's something like +/- 2 pounds. My doctor guessed 2 days before my baby came about 7-7 1/2lbs, baby was born over 9lbs. A friend had the opposite, told baby was 8 1/2-9lbs on a Friday, baby was born the following Monday under 8lbs.
