I think love is a lot deeper than only being about the more short term, intense, feelings- there are stages of love and relationships past the initial excitement. 
But I also think that yes, love is influenced by choices and mindset to some degree. If you constantly notice things about your partner to be grateful for, you'll feel and act more loving. If you constantly notice things you don't like about your partner and nit pick all kinds of negative things, you'll grow and probably act resentful. You may love them on either circumstance, but feeling annoyed is a far different experience. 
But you could also not love them anymore, especially if they fail to fulfill you in any way anymore, you don't get along, you don't spend time together or enjoy it, or you resent them for good reason.

Butterflies are more a feeling of excitement and new experiences, not necessarily always for love. I definitely believe that a big part to love is choice.
