Am I able to request more ultrasounds?

My last ultrasound was at 20 weeks, I am 28 weeks now. And I had asked the dr is I will get to have another one before I am due and she stated usually they don't schedule anymore unless they are concerned and want to check baby. But I've seen some moms-to-be posting photos of their ultrasounds done later on in their pregnancy. Are we able to request more? Have you requested more and been able to get them done? 😊

I had one at 36w as they were concerned my son was going to be too big for me to deliver going into labor on my own (he was 2w ahead the entire time so at 40w I was measuring at 42w fundal height. He was just tall and lean so I was able to deliver without an issue. I’ve had 4 US for my daughter so far and have at minimum one more at 30w because of her heart. Be thankful you don’t NEED multiple or extra US. It’s true that you get them when there’s an issue or concern. If you aren’t getting them, your baby is healthy and lots of mamas, just like me, wish that were the case for our baby. You will see your little one soon enough. If you really want one go to a private scan location and pay out of pocket for a 3D if 4D one

They only do it for medical reasons or private scans you pay for yourself.

With my first, I had my anatomy scan at 20 weeks and then since I was consistently measuring 2 weeks ahead, she had me do one at 34 or 36 weeks to see how big baby was. This time, I had my anatomy scan at 20 weeks and because baby had a echogenic bowel, they're doing one next week at 28 weeks to verify it has resolved itself. Then she said she'd do one at 34 or 36 weeks again to see how big baby is. I was not considered high risk with my first and had no bills for anything with my insurance. I did do an elective private scan at 15 weeks to get gender, so you might want to do that. It cost us about $65 to have the private do it.

My doctor said that she’s going to do one more at 30 weeks just for fun so I can see him.

With my son I had one at 20 then not again tell 37 but they only did it cause I was dilated but they didn’t feel his head in place, of course was breech. Ultrasounds i get after 20 weeks I pay an outside party for.

You can always ask. I get them because of being high risk. My previous pregnancies I only got 2 or 3. If i wanted more they were all paid for out of pocket so i would check to see if your insurance will cover an ultrasound that isn't medically necessary.  It may be cheaper to go to a sneak peak kind of place if they don't.

I’m in NY, and maybe it’s also bc I’m over 35, but I’ve had a ton...and I would literally be a mess if I didn’t have them!  I’m not high risk in any other way and have no health issues.  I had one miscarriage, so when I got pregnant this time, my doctor knew I was anxious to keep seeing the heartbeat, and he was more than accommodating in letting me come back in weekly so I could feel assured.  I got one at 7,8,9,10, then 12, 16,20,24 (those are always standard).  My next is 28, and then I’ll go every two weeks after that until 36, where I start to go every week! Again, that’s standard for them!  Even if I didn’t have the early ones weekly, my doctors office just happens to do a lot of them!  I would say definitely ask, because you know what...The squeaky wheel gets the oil (or however that goes!)  It can’t hurt to ask or request.

I’ve only had 2 and I am 26 weeks. My next one will be at 32 weeks. My baby has a heart defect and they didn’t say they wanted to see me back before 32 weeks. I guess it depends on your pregnancy and if you have any health concerns.

I paid for one at 10 wks, got my free one  at 21 wks and now I have to have one at 28 wks because something is off with my placenta. In my area you can pay for an private one ranging from 50-200 depending on type and length.

I've only had two so far. I'm 24 weeks. My first was to make sure baby was good at 9w3d and the second was at 20w5d to check the gender and anatomy scan. My doctor did notice at my last scan that the cord was not dead center to the placenta, and may do a couple more ultrasounds just to check baby's growth. She told me not to worry about it so I won't. She checks baby's heart beat at every check in so I honestly prefer not do as many ultrasounds because of the radiation it gives off when checking baby on the inside.

Am I able to request more ultrasounds?
