It’s time to be eggcited

li

have wiggle eggs. I have talked to a few people who are more experienced than me when it comes to hand turning eggs because I’ve always had automatic egg turners in my incubators. Apparently chickens can hatch earlier than 21 days, I’ve only had that happen with quail eggs though but apparently chickens can pull that too and day 18 is when you take the egg turner out and lay them flat so that they can correctly position themselves for hatching. They’re already flat though since I’m hand turning. and when I turned them this morning I guess I woke them up and wow.

Today is day 17 and boy I have some wiggly little eggs. They are in the incubator knocking into each other. The wiggling is them positioning themselves in the egg for hatching.

I think this may be because this is one of the best incubators I’ve ever used. Not once have I had to adjust the temperature.

It turns out that the weird sound I was hearing wasn’t even my incubator. It was an air vent that is underneath the table that the incubator is on that is making the weird noise, so the incubator is still working as it should. And I’m happy about that because I went out of my way searching for a good High rated brand because I’ve had so many problems with cheap store bought incubators. I was just being a worrisome chicken mom to be I guess lmfao

This is what they look like at day 3 of incubation. (This picture is from google)

And this is what they will have grown to be at day 18

Wiggling eggs is the first sign of hatching babies. The next sign will be hearing little chirps coming from the eggs. So it’s all up to them when they want to make their first pip through the shell.

Warning though. Don’t get too excited for this to be a fast process because it can take a whole 24 hours after they first break the shell to fully hatch. When they start hatching I will post updates.

In refrence to hand turning and automatic egg turners for those of you who have not been following my baby chicken posts:

Fertile chicken eggs need to be turned 3 times a day so that the chick doesn’t develop on one side of the egg. It can cause them to die. Automatic egg turners turn the eggs for you so you don’t have to mess with them. But I chose the hand turning route. All 7 eggs are all good and strong apparently seeing as they’re playing bumper eggs with each other

But I think I may really get an early hatch due to how much they are moving. It’s just up to them.

Here is hopefully a preview of what you will see in the coming days.

This is a picture from my last hatch a few years ago in my old crappy incubator that I had to doctor up all the time. So glad I have a cool one now 🤣
