Getting an IUD soon, any pointers/useful info from your own experience?

I’m 18 and i’m getting an IUD soon (for cramps and for.. well birth control)
Is there anything you girls would find useful for me to know? tips? advice? important information i should know?

Best bc ever! I loved my Mirena iud. No bad side effects. Stopped my periods. I knew multiple people with it and they all love it as well. I had it for two years.

I love my iud. Ive ha dmirena for 2 years. Insertion was intense cramps. Had bad cramos for 1 month afterwards like stop and breathe cramps. No other side effects. We dont use condoms or pull out and ive never gotten pregnant. My periods stopped after month 4. You may have irregular bleeding. It can happen at anytime during the use of the iud. Yes irregular periods are a common side effect of hormonal iuds. 
This includes heavier bleeding, longer bleeding, spotting, spotting between periods, periods closer together or farther apart, or no bleeding. Usually happens with the first 3 to 6 months but can happen anytime during the use of the iud. 
If you have mirena up to 20% of users stop getting periods and its the only fda approved birth control to help treat heavy periods. Kyleena stops periods in up to 12% of users and skyla stops periods in up to 6% of users. Youre most likely to have irregular periods with kyleena and skyla because they're lower dosages than mirena. 
Mirena is 52mg of levonogestrel, kyleena 19.5mg of levonogestrel and skyla 13.5mg of levonogestrel.

I have had two iuds, and loved them. I had no periods with them and was never worried about getting pregnant with them. My skin was great, I didn’t gain weight, didn’t have to worry about getting my prescription every month and taking my pills every day. 
I also have friends and sisters who have them and love them.. no negative side effects.
It doesn’t feel great going in, and you’ll likely have cramping for a day or two after insertion. Easy to get removed when you’re ready, though!

Hey! Just got mine out after 5 years. I had a love hate relationship with mine but I wouldn’t trade my experience for anything. I had intense non-period-related cramps throughout and still had periods but they were lighter and shorter (went from heavy 11-14 days to medium/light 4-8 days).

I had one for years and my cramps stayed the same. My cramps felt like contractions from outer space. They didn’t really change until I changed my eating habits, used herbal pads and started exercising. I wouldn’t recommend this one for you if your trying for kids at some point. This device made me have a etopic pregnancy.

I LOVE my mirena. Got it at my postpartum appointment, had shorter/lighter periods (they used to be 10-18 days long with intense cramps and clotting and I would go through like 3 boxes of ultra tampons) I had 3 periods and I haven’t had one since. No side effects for me.

Really do thorough research on the implants. I haven’t heard many success stories with them. A lot of women bleed for weeks or months with all of the implants and they tend to cause complications later on. I personally will never have an IUD or nexplanon.

Depends I had the Mirena twice.. so fucking painful. Both times my uterus contracted constantly I was in so much pain down my legs and back and could barely walk. I have it two weeks the first time and two months the second time.. legit worked from home and had strong pain killers and was bleeding heavily..
In saying this my reaction isn’t common it’s cause by past surgery’s, lots of scar tissue, dysfunctional pelvic floor muscles due to having endometriosis stage 4 and extreme pain. 
Give it a go, take Advil/Panadol before relax and give it a few months to adjust this can be an excellent tool for birth control and controlling period pain/periods in general. My gyno who is one of the best in Australia highly recommends them that’s why I tried twice.
