Did you transfer 1 or 2 embryos??

Hi all!
I’m just getting ready to prep for a frozen transfer in July. I was asked if we had decided on 1 or 2 embryos and I wasn’t expecting to be given a choice. I was just assuming they would only allow 1 to be transferred. I’m just looking for some insight on your decisions and outcomes with transferring 1 vs. 2. A little about our situation: we have male factor infertility (CF genes), I have no known issues, I am 33 years old and have never been pregnant. We have 3 non-tested embryos frozen and they have been hatched already and graded 6AA. Due to my age and the limited number of embryos we have, we decided not to test, and genetically I’m not a carrier for CF so we don’t need to worry about that thank goodness!

I had 9 eggs frozen non PGS because it wasn’t recommended to me due to my age. (27at the time) my first transfer I transferred 1, but at my 6w 5d appt there was no HB, sent out for testing and it was abnormal, scheduled for a D&c.... 2nd transfer I transferred 2 and it was a chemical. I am now going into my 3rd and still transferring 2. Goodluck to you!

For my fresh transfer, my doc transfered  2 embryos stating it would be better odds due to my age (I'm 37). Unfortunately, neither took but we have one that made it to day 5 as a 4AB that we're going to transfer next month. Personally, if I had the option,
 I'd do two because of my age and wanting to maximize my chances and I'd be okay with twins but definitely lots of things to consider. Good luck to you!

I transferred one in my first pregnancy and it split into twins (unfortunately one twin didn't make it). We almost did 2 and that very well might have given us triplets. After having my one healthy baby in the end, I look at parents of multuples and have no idea how they do it lol Also, what if your body rejects the embryos for reasons other than embryo quality? Then you may be out two perfectly healthy embryos. If I were in your shoes, I would transfer one. But everyone thinks differently for different reasons, so ultimately it is a very personal choice. We’re doing 1 because that’s what my dr recommends. She said they hardly ever do 2 because the risk of twins is too high, which puts your entire pregnancy at risk. I’m already high risk with a history of Preeclampsia, plus IVF increases your Preeclampsia risk even if you have no prior issues, so I’d be terrified to do more than 1, BUT I would absolutely love twins if it was an option without too many extra risks. If I was healthy and younger (I’m 36) with lots of extra embryos I’d probably do 2. We only have 4 embryos and I still want 2 more babies.🙏

We transferred 2 my first fresh cycle unfortunately it failed. We plan on transferring 2 again in the future. My RE said he would even transfer 3 NON-pgt due to my age- 38 in 2 weeks, if we decide to test after the next retrieval he said he would still transfer 2 normal tested embryos.

Hi Alison, I have my retrieval at the end of next month! I don’t have any added insight as far as personal experience because I am not there just yet but my doctor and I have decided on transferring two. I am 10 years younger than you & will not be PGS testing either. Main reason for me is that I actually want twins. There’s a few risks that come with carrying multiples (gestational diabetes, preterm labor, low birth weight, etc) so just look it up & educate yourself. Of course you also have to weigh the financial responsibility that comes with twins. My doctor mentioned to me that transferring two doesn’t really increase chances of conceiving more than 10%... usually he says either one or both take 🤷🏻‍♀️ I would only transfer two if you want/would be happy with twins, I wouldn’t do it for the sole purpose of increasing chances.
