My boy finally arrived....although not how we planned!

Charlotte

So all along I really wanted a water birth. I went for my midwife appointment at 40 weeks last Wednesday and had a sweep, she told me I was 1cm dilated and was expecting me to go into labour that night.

Nothing happened so I went to my scheduled induction the next day (Thursday) they were happy with my progress as I was having some mild pains and wanted to see if my body would start labouring itself.

If not I was booked for an induction on the Saturday.

So Saturday came but my son was having other ideas.

At 1.30pm they put the rods in me and let me rest on the ward to see what would happen. approximately 1.30am Sunday morning I started having mild contractions which they started too monitor.

945am the rods came out and hormone gel went in. From around 12.30pm Sunday I started having contractions which were coming every 20/30 minutes. This continued well into Monday morning where I was moved to the labour ward at 5.30 Monday morning, I seemed to be having an issue dilating and was finding it difficult to deal with the pain so in the end I got an epidural. After an hour of this, my back and tummy began hurting, the epidural was failing so they topped up the medication.

Another hour goes by and I am starting to feel pains again. The doctors were very confused as I shouldn't have felt anything. Around 8pm Monday night I was only 5cm and becoming increasingly frustrated and exhausted so I asked for a C-section. They encouraged my to try and go on which I reluctantly agreed to.

The night kept on going and I begin thinking this baby would never be born.

Then I started to feel the most intense pain in my back and stomach and when examined it was noted my son had turned back to back during labour.

When I was checked again I was 8cm and was absolutely over it by then. Contracting for what felt like days and in extreme pain I asked for a C-section again to where they said to me it wouldn't be long and I had the ability to do it.

Then I began feeling enormous pressure down below and that's where it went a bit wrong.

I began complaining again of severe back pain but I still had the epidural in so this shouldn't have happened.

I then began vomitting and saying I felt sick and hot. When the midwife checked she confirmed I had a temperature and I was transferred for an emergency c-section.

My son finally came into the world at 2.29 on Tuesday morning.

He is absolutely perfect, we are both still in hospital due to me having surgery and my son is a little poorly due to some complications during the last few hours of labour.

But OMG I am in love with him ,💙😍
