Would you tolerate working like this?
I am debating on quitting.
In this scenario, you start this job as an assistant with a schedule of 8:00AM - 2:00PM. You got this job because you were looking for something part-time so that you can focus more on your family and healing mentally.
When Coronavirus hit, your schedule went out the window, basically having to drop whatever you were doing because you were needed at that moment. You ended up working from anywhere between 7:00AM up to 9:00PM just because there was things that needed to be done. You asked for a schedule repeatedly because you were not getting anything done.
You didn’t get paid for an entire month but was expected to keep working. When you mentioned it, the response you were given was “I’m sure someone else can feed you. You’re not going to starve are you?” And then brags on the phone how you have been kept working throughout this mess. Now, it’s been three weeks and you haven’t been paid again. Finally you were put on a schedule again, but now you are being guilted constantly for not staying later. You end up staying till 8:30PM trying to help even though you had to be home. Even though you stay for your scheduled time, most days you have to stay later because you are “needed”. Would you stay? I am just at my wits end. I got this job so that I can be home and work on myself while still working. Now I’m constantly stressed, working over time, and nothing else gets done because I’m busy doing this stuff. I really enjoy the work I do, but my boss seems to think my life should revolve around their business, and I don’t agree. I am a hard worker and will do my best in the allotted time but its not my business. I don’t want to work myself ragged for someone else when I could either be working on mine and my SO’s business. Do you agree or no? Being on call/working late was never on the table. I just was trying to be helpful but not I feel taken advantage of.
