Does anyone think a traditional structured wedding is a bit outdated?

No matter what you do someone is going to have an opinion about it. The couple should do what makes them happy.

I never desired one. I don’t think it’s outdated or there’s anything wrong with it, I just personally never wanted to spend a bunch of money and time planning this huge ordeal. I just wanted to marry the man of my dreams. Elopement was our decision, but family wanted to be there so we ended up allowing parents and grandparents.

my husband and i signed our marriage certificate in a kitchen in our pjs lol. i think the big wedding thing sounds nice in theory, but the stress of it all deterred us. our marriage is about us and we kept it very private and i wouldn’t have it any other way. i don’t judge people who do have big traditional weddings though, it’s all about preference and what works for each couple!

Outdated? No. 
Necessary? Also no. Weddings should be what the couples want.
I got married in a beautiful historic Unitarian church. I am a non practicing catholic and my husband a non practicing baptist. But on paper we did a “traditional” wedding church/reception at a country club. That was our choice though. I’ve been invited to destination weddings, friend eloped then had a fancy dinner, ceremony/reception same venue, backyard wedding. All are fine by me.

I think marriage as a whole is very outdated. I still get happy when my friends get married, but it’s not something I want for myself
