Working from home? How many productive hours can you make?

If you are getting your 8h/day please share your secrets!
For most people there are 1-2 hours in the office spent just grabbing coffee, walking around socializing, going from meeting to meeting... so I would consider 6.0 a productive day from home.
Thoughts??? How can mothers work?

I work in IT, and I’m a single mom with a two year old. I start working around 7 am and stop around 9 pm. In that 14 hour period I’m getting in maybe 7-9 hours of work. The rest of the time is consumed by taking care of my LO, and household tasks. I will say that even when I’m putting the time in, I don’t feel like I’m being as productive as I would be if I didn’t have to be keeping an eye on my toddler. The only time I don’t have that distraction is when he’s asleep and that time goes by way too fast. Not to mention this schedule is EXHAUSTING. 
So I’m putting the hours in, but am I being as productive as I normally am? Probably not. And my son is taken care of, but am I giving him as much attention as I should be? Probably not. Is the house a mess? Definitely, lol.

Some days are good and I can do 7 hours or so, some are bad and I can only do 4 hours.

I’m happy if I get 4 hours during the day or “productive” work time. If I’m behind or still have work that needs to be done, I’ll spend an additional hour or two working, after my boys go to bed.

Recently, my mom had had him for 6 hours a day. It took me about 3 hours to get in the last 1.5 hours of really work. On days I worked from home before the world blew up, he still went to daycare and I clocked a solid 7.5 hrs, which is our standard daily commitment. I have no idea how anyone can actually say they work a full day from home with kids around. Maybe if they are older, but definitely not a year old 🤷🏼‍♀️ I don’t cut my day short, I get paid well enough and have enough to do and respect my company enough to be fully transparent with my working hours.
