Need Advice

Everybody that knows my husband (D) knows that he has a very playful and goofy personality...my nephew spent the night at our house and D came up to me laughing saying “nephew sleeping so hard! I just tried to pick his hair out (he has a huge fro) and he didn’t even wake up! He needs to wash his hair though”

I laughed and didn’t think nothing of it...the next day my mom pulled me to the side and said my nephew told her that D combed his hair while he was asleep...my mom begin questioning why D did that and went on saying that it was very inappropriate. She says a grown man should not play with a child like that and even insinuated that my husband had bad intentions.

Now I and my husband feel very hurt that she would take an innocent joke in that way (basically accusing my husband of being inappropriate with a child). It led to a HUGE argument between us.

Is my mom overreacting? Or did D take a joke too far?
