My husband and I live in California. We are thinking of moving to Hawaii but we feel guilty taking our son away from his grandparents. Both of my parents and my husband’s dad all live in the same city as us now. I bring my son over for a visit once a week and I love that time together. But there are a lot of reasons why we think Hawaii would be a better place to raise our family, including the schools and cost of housing, among other things. We can barely afford a crappy apartment zoned for crappy schools here. We have enough money saved for a nice house with good schools there. With my husband’s profession it’d be easy for him to find a job there. It’s mainly the thought of leaving the grandparents that’s holding us back.

Anyone have any advice? How far away do you live from your parents? Was it hard to move away?
