The word itself wasn’t wrong to use in my house, but the connotation was definitely negative. You wouldn’t want to be called a liar, but it wasn’t a curse word as such.

I would get hit and/or threatened to be hit by my grandma and great aunts and aunt and uncles for saying liar. I had to say "fibber" or "they are fibbing" and even still sometimes i would still get hit or threatened. I grew up leaening to stay quiet which honestly fucked me up and i still have a problem communicating after being told to be quiet even if it was important
