Any one from Detroit Michigan?

Question

Would you recommend leaving NYC to live in Detroit? My father in law is insisting in us buying a house there since nyc is too expensive and also he lives there but I did my research and there’s a lot of abandon houses there  but I would like to hear personal opinions?

I’m from the suburbs of Detroit.  It really depends on where you live in the Detroit area.  If you are coming from NYC it would be such a lower cost of living.  But you would have to have a car.  All of my family lives there so I miss it but I don’t know if you would like it.  
You should go visit and definitely if you are looking at houses visit at daytime and nighttime.  The downtown area is really changing and a lot of young professionals have moved in. 
Detroit is not as bad as what people say.  It’s just not for everybody.

Yeah no... I stay as far away from Detroit as I can. Went to college near Detroit for one semester and it was cops and gunshots everyday

Me personally I wouldn’t move there. I live in Ohio know people that live there. Hate it and want to get the hell out. Idk I guess it depends on the person but I wouldn’t personally relocate there.

I wouldn't do it.
I live an hour & a half from Detroit. Only time I travel there is for the airport or a concert. ( Prior to Covid) I personally hate the area. It's high crime, has many dangerous areas. Makes me nervous every time I drive there alone. I'd have him research other areas in Michigan. There are many safe communities!!! Stay away from Flint, Detroit & Saginaw.

Schools are horrible, the city is very poorly run. My friend had to move there to be closer to his child and he hates everyday there
