Fair tattoo price?

Hi all so I do have ink but I have been getting tattooed by the same person for a few years and my tattoos are on the small-medium side so I think my brain is a bit biased when it comes to prices. I am in a new city and want to get a fairly large thigh tattoo of an octopus with some flowers surrounding it. The artist I found and really love charges 200 per hr. My eyes kinda jumped outta my head haha but I just wanna see if that's reasonable. I put some photos of her work here so people could gauge

$200 PER HOUR.?? I’m no expert but I ain’t never hear no shot like that.. I always heard them go on how big it is , if you want color & I think where it’s located at.. they sum up the price right there . Never did I hear “per hour”🤔

Fairly common Espically when it’s a good artist. My artist did a flat rate because of how big and knowing it would be at least 6-8 hour tattoo so it wasn’t too too bad however my other tattoos have been x amount by the hour. Plus you tip after. At least I do for my artist. If your not pleased with the price then I’d go to another shop but getting a “deal” in the tattoo world isn’t always great normally it ends up being shitty work and you either laser it or cover up which is even more. Honestly 200 isn’t bad at all Espically seeing those couple pictures looks like a good artist that knows what he or she is doing.

That’s about right - especially for the amazing work you posted! Rather pay more for something that will be done expertly than a cheaper place where you’re not happy with the work.

My artist just changed his prices at his new shop to 200 an hour. We all struggling.

200 per hour for as much as you can handle could totally be worth it... I've got so many tattoos and had a shop and pricing is all over the map... I would shop around but I bet you find similar prices in that area....

Honestly seems a little high to me. My artist charges 150/hour. It also can be a location thing. Some cities just have higher rates. I got a tattoo in Orlando Florida that was ridiculously overpriced just because it was a tourist area.

Some artists do it based on size and color, other artists do charge by the hour (my current one does) and for work like that, it seems fair for a per hour artist. My artists mentor is $300/hr.

Mine charges by piece and color amount. I paid my artist $2,000 for the wings on my back they go entirely across and start at my shoulders down to my ass...... that was free handed and to get all the shading done perfect it was 5 8 hour sessions.
