is it rude of me to identify as black?
My mother is 100% white and my biological father is 50% black, so that makes me 75% white and 25% black. My bio father has been in my life maybe 2 years max (over different periods of time, not consecutively) and my mother and my stepdad have raised me. My stepdad is 100% black and i’ve been raised around his family and consider them to be like blood to me. I am definitely white passing, but everyone says you can tell im mixed with something, most people assume im latina. Whenever im asked what i am i always say im both white and black. I understand i have a different experience as someone who is not white passing, like both of my sisters (who are both 50%), and for years i’ve wondered if it is okay for me to claim my blackness. I don’t want to offend anybody when i do, but i also love that side of myself and that part of my family and i dont want to be disrespectful in any way and would love to be educated on this by those who may have a little more insight than i do. thank you for any answer you may have :)
