Has anyone taken azithromycin for UTI? I get frequent UTIs, but get severe side effects from Nitrofurantoin. I tolerated cipro just fine, but since I've been TTC, the Physician Assistant (since I visited urgent care, I saw a PA-C instead of an MD) gave me azithromycin since it is safer for pregnancy (I got the UTI mid cycle, so she wanted to be safe).

I've never heard of this antibiotic, and noticed that the UTI side effects haven't cleared as quickly as they usually do with other antibiotics that I have taken. I'm only on day 2 of a 5 day regimen, but typically feel more relief by now with other meds. I decided to look online, and there's really not a lot of info for this being used for UTIs. I do remember the PA-C saying that they don't usually prescribe this unless they have to because it doesn't work as well as the other UTI antibiotics.

Has anybody else taken it for this? Was it successful? I guess I'm a little paranoid that this will develop into a kidney infection if it's not being treated properly, and am not sure when I should follow up with the PA-C. I don't feel great, but also want to give it time to work.
