what do we do?

a little backstory: my husband is a previously undocumented mexican immigrant residing in the united states. a few days ago he got approved for a temporary work visa and we are currently working on his residency, and in five years we’ll work on his citizenship.

and just before anyone asks: no, his marriage to me does not grant automatic citizenship. this hasn’t been a thing for a long time (i don’t mean to say that in such a dick tone, but i get asked that so often i’m just over it).

so this is a long story and i apologize.

so, when my husband started at this construction company he was 100% undocumented. no daca (dreamers act meant to give people who emigrated as children a work and school permit). no social. nothing. they approved him for $13.50 an hour without knowing he was undocumented. he has finally made his way up to $16 after a year, which IS a lot of raises, BUT come to find out... everyone else started at at least $16. everyone else at the company is white.

additionally, his boss has made a ton of racial jokes. i won’t go into what they were because there were so many and they make me so so angry.

and now come to find out, the owner of this small company had a “company day” where he took everyone fishing and camping the day before independence day... except my husband. my husband still had to work. everyone else got paid time off.

my husband JUST found out about the company day today.

do we have a case for discrimination once we get is residency? or should we just leave it be because he worked illegally and could be deported for it?

i don’t know what to do, and it’s not about the money we’d get. i really just don’t want anyone to ever have to go through this. it’s torn my husband apart. he’s never felt so bullied.
