Advice working in healthcare w/COVID exposure
Hey ladies, I recently accepted a job offer as a CNA in a Critical care unit. I am 8 weeks & did not inform HR of my pregnancy as I didn’t want it to interfere with me getting hired. Upon extending the offer, the HR manager asked if I was okay with working with COVID-19 positive patients in recovery. I asked her what were their precautions for this & basically the positive patients are put in isolation until they test negative atleast twice & they’ll also provide PPE (gown, goggles or face shield, N95 mask etc.) for us. she mentioned that if there were enough positive patients they would have to open a unit for them in which I may be required to work on. I’m nervous about being susceptible to this virus catching it or bringing it back to my babies at home. I will be 11 weeks when I start & Due to this being a new job I’m concerned about not getting an approved leave as most healthcare jobs require 12 month employment for any FMLA. When should I tell them I’m pregnant? I was going to try to wait until my 2nd trimester before I mentioned it. I don’t want them to think I’m not able to perform my duties but I want to be as safe as possible for my sake & my loved ones health. Anyone else pregnant & working around covid ?
