Just wanted to share this sweet but sad story my husband shared with me a few days ago.

Let me start of by saying that my 6 year old son LOVES it when I paint his nails. He gets so excited by the colours and often chooses a different colour for every nail. No one has every really made comments about it until the other day.

My husband took him to the grocery store to buy dinner while I was at home. He said they were waiting in line, when an older lady said, “is that a boy?” to my husband, referring to my son. He said “yeah, this is my son” with all the pride in the world. The lady then said “so why is your son wearing nail polish?”

He told me that he’ll never forget the look of confusion on our little boys face. “What does she mean daddy?” 😭

He noticed that the lady also had painted nails, so he said to her, “well, he’s probably wearing it for the same reasons you are. Because he likes them.” And she looked away looking angry but didn’t say anything.

I’ve noticed that he’s been slightly hesitant to wear it ever since, and it breaks my heart that he’s scared to do something he was once so excited about :( We’ve assured him that it’s okay and he can do whatever he likes but it sucks that he continues to get comments like this.
