How can i help my depressed boyfriend pre-deployment?
Hi all,
I really would like some advice.
I'm in a long distance relationship with my military boyfriend and he is about to be deployed for 4 months.
I knew that he had been stressed out lately, but i didnt know how depressed he was until we talked on the phone last night.
Not being able to see family or friends is something most military is used to but its been hitting him really hard. His only 2 friends on the boat just transferred, and he just had to say goodbye to me and his family when we recently visited him. Its the first time he's seen them in months. And work has been super stressful, taking over people's jobs and working 16 hour days...
But he doesn't like to talk, not about work, not really about anything.
I really want to help him but its hard. I feel his pain so deeply and it hurts me that he's hurting right now.
I tried offering distractions by watching movies, playing video games, just talking.. but he doesnt want any of it.. he's too tired and depressed to do anything at all..
I'm hoping this is something that will pass but I'd really like some advice on how to help him, with the loneliness, the stress.. how to break through his tough exterior without making things worse.. (whenever i try to talk about it he gets angry or upset..)
I love him so much and i want to stick with him and support him through this best i can.
Thanks xo
