Pooping in the potty regression

Heather • Maggie’s mom

I’ve been slowly working on potty training with my daughter. She turned 2 one month ago. She’s been peeing and pooping in the potty regularly for probably 2-3 months. She doesn’t tell me when she needs to use the potty, but if I tell her to go every 60-90 min, she won’t have any accidents all day. She’s been wearing underwear for about a month (some accidents but it’s always when I wait too long to have her go potty).

But lately she’s been telling me she’s not pooping on the potty. She will actively try to poop in her pants. We were on such a good roll and I hadn’t changed a poopy diaper in a couple weeks. I can always tell when she has to poop so I’ll take her to the bathroom, have her sit on the potty, and then she’ll just stop trying to go. This then leads to constipation, which then makes her want to go even less the next time I’m sure because it hurts.

Any advice? I’m not concerned that she’s behind or anything, but we were on a really good roll and I want to keep it going.
