Multiple cats sharing a litter box??

Question

Tomorrow is the start of our "cousin" kitty sleep over for a week or two while her family gets settled into a new home (they are moving from out of state and the place they are staying until they find an apartment of their own can't have cats due to allergies and dogs) anyways it's just hit me that maybe they need their own litter boxes?? Or can they share one? I keep a VERY clean litter box if that makes a difference 🤔
We are a 1 cat household so I really don't know these things 🤷‍♀️

Yeh I would get a second one. You might find that the new cat won't go in the other one as it smells like another cat. Have these cats met before? Do they get on? Just be prepared if not 😊

Definately. The general rule is one per cat plus an extra, however I only have 2 for my two, one is a big tub though and the other one of those big enclosed ones with the door at the front.

You should have one more litter tray than you do cats. 
We have two cats 3 litter trays so there is never a fight or a contest.

I have two cats we rescued as stray kittens and they’ve always shared. We have a HUGE one because my one cat is massive. We’ve never had a problem. However, since you are having one who isn’t used to being with another cat, I’d say it’s best to have a second one.

Get a second box. When I got my other cat my first did some weird territorial shit where he would literally sit in the box all day so the new guy couldn't go. Then it reversed, and the new guy did it. Basically what if they both have to go at the same time, and there's only one box?

I would definitely set up a second one for a “visitor” and not put them right next to each other (even different rooms if possible). They might end up being okay with sharing but you need to be prepared if not. Cats can be very territorial. I once was cat sitting my bf’s sister’s cat for a week, and my cat wouldn’t even let her come up the stairs to the floor where the box was, and we had to set up a second one downstairs. On the other hand, when I got a second cat later on, that same cat was fine sharing with her new brother.🤷‍♀️

I have two cats and we have two litter boxes. They might be okay sharing but I would definitely recommend two boxes just in case! My cats use both but they do appear to prefer one over the other. We have one box in our bathroom and another in our hallway. I always recommend people look up Jackson Galaxy on YouTube! He has a lot of helpful tips about cats and introducing cats
