Mother and baby unit?

My little girl is 8 weeks old, since her birth I’ve been experiencing postnatal depression. I’ve been seeing a community mental health nurse who brought up a mother and baby unit because I don’t seem to be improving. It’s not something I’m interested in, I wouldn’t want to go. Can they admit you without your consent? I’m from England if this makes a difference.

I’m not sure about UK, but in the states you cannot force someone into mental health treatment unless they are a risk to themselves or others. I would imagine the UK is similar in that if you are having thoughts of suicide or abuse to your baby then they may have grounds to temporarily commit you for safety. 
Definitely tell your therapist you aren’t interested in the program they suggested a at this time and ask them questions! Mental health Counselors are there to help and guide you through the process. Ask why they would recommend it, and if there are circumstances that would put it out of your control. There’s no harm in asking questions.

You’re a good mother and you love your baby! Its not a failure to admit you’re struggling or to get the extra help you need.
A mother and baby unit will help you tremendously if you’re continuing to struggle. Just consider it and try not to dismiss it off hand. There’s a Facebook group for mother’s struggling with PND (UK based) and so many of the ladies in the group have nothing but positive experiences of these units.

Yes they can section you if they think you are a danger to yourself or others.
