Has anyone ever been sue'd for leaving the lease earlier? We have a little over 6 months left and my husband lost his job because of covid so we have to move out I let the landlords know but they charge 2 months rent to break the lease early but we cant afford that with him being laid off and 2 kids. I told them they could keep our security deposit which is 1 months rent but they said there policy is 2 months and they charge for any damages. From what I've seen online they can take you to small court claims and sue you for the remainder of your lease if you dont pay. Has that happened to anyone?
