TriCare is a b****
Mostly needing your vent, also looking for advice.
Background: This is my first pregnancy, 8weeks along, dear husband is currently active duty.
Situation: Just had an intake appointment over the phone with a nurse at the Medical Center on post. Following the (long) questionnaire by the Nurse, I was transferred to the front desk of the OB clinic to schedule my next appointment-except it will not be until 20 weeks?! And they can’t even guarantee I’ll get an ultrasound then, “if everything else looks good we don’t need to do one.” (Quite from the nurse)😭 The only reason I can get an appointment earlier is if I want a blood test for genetic testing, “incase you want to decide not to keep it if something is wrong.”. I’m not sure what kind of BS this is, but I’m over it. I am also low risk, so my only options for the 20 week were a group appointment with about 20 other women or a midwife-no option to see an OB.
Thoughts: I knew TriCare will only do ultrasound if it’s “necessary” but I definitely thought that 20 week one was important! I really want to see my baby-or at least evidence that it’s healthy and just there, ASAP. And besides that, I’ve heard of and seen so many women having several ultrasounds during pregnancy that are also active duty wives-I’m so confused and upset and don’t know what to do next.
Should I call them back? Go off post and get a different doctor? Second opinion? What would you do?
