It actually could be an emerald. I've worked in 3 jewellery stores and have seen some light and cloudy ones. They aren't all dark and clear. The only way to know for sure is if you take it to a jeweller to be appraised. Is there a karat marking on the necklace? 10k, 14k? Is it an old one that you were given or bought from an antique store?

Nobody on here saying no knows what the fuck they’re talking about 😂 any jewel expert or anyone without their head up their ass will tell you the only way to know is to get it appraised. 
And you should get all your jewels appraised anyway, they’re assets.
