When to test for fasting?

I was recently diagnosed with GD and I’m curious when I test for fasting in the morning if I should do it after 8hrs or 12hrs? TIA!

I was told no more than 10 hours by my Diabetes educator.

My diabetes educator said it can be 8-12 hours. Usually an hour before breakfast at maximum. So if you wake up at 9 am and you have been fasting for 8 hours. You can check it, but if you know you won’t be eating for over an hour I would wait to test your blood sugar. I have done it at all times and one time it went a little over. But I feel like that you will not get a lower number necessary waiting the full 12. Good luck mama!

I’ve been eating my last snack around 7:30pm and I don’t test until at least twelve hours later. That might be why my fasting numbers are high. After reading this post, I might try to have a later snack tonight so my fasting isn’t so long

It’ll be a little bit of experimenting at first.
Some people have great numbers after 12, some have great after 8.
My perfect time seems to be around 10-11 hours, but I’m only on day 5 of testing!
