Azithromycin and breastfeeding?

Heather

Hey, so I probably have COVID-19, I'm just waiting on my test results to come back tomorrow. My doctor prescribed me azithromycin and told me I couldn't breastfeed for 5 days and would have to pump and dump. I feel like I've taken azithromycin before when I had bronchitis a few years ago and was breastfeeding my other son at the time. I definitely didn't pump and dump then, I remember because I was at Disney World and didn't bring my pump, so it would have been a big deal if I was supposed to then. She also prescribed me prednisone, which I remember being prescribed back then as well, and the only thing was to try to take it like right after a feeding to distance the time it could end up in the breastmilk. I'm already devastated with catching COVID-19, and all of the uncertainties it could hold. I really don't want to add not breastfeeding for 5 days to it if I don't have to as well. Has anyone taken azithromycin or prednisone while breastfeeding before?

Side note: I'm also pissed about catching COVID-19 in the first place. My family hasn't gone or done anything basically since March when all this started. My husband gets groceries once a week, and that's the only time he goes anywhere. We're both teachers though, and although we've been teaching virtually this whole time, our district still made us come in to the building to teach virtually starting a month ago. That forced us to to rely on our parents as childcare, so then my father in law caught COVID-19 and now it's spread to me. I'm grateful so far our kids aren't showing signs, but we never would have been exposed in the first place if we hadn't been forced to come in to do a job we could have done from home. We've also consistently had the highest number of cases in the state since before this decision was made, and we're also a top 5 state for cases.
