Frustrated 2nd time C-Section Mama.

Kristin

So a day and a half of labor adding up in a C-section with my first child and other complications didn’t go great so the second pregnancy was a planned C-section. Unfortunately at 40 weeks because my OB is on vacation this week in my 39th week. My fear was going into labor earlier and kind of mixing up everything that happened the first time. Well sure enough today I wake up with lots of contractions and a lot of discharge. I thought it was water leaking so we head to the hospital and I’m thinking I’ll pretty much just go right into a C-section and instead they put me into a preadmission room and check for dilation and everything else like I’m doing a vaginal birth. I said I don’t dilate. I never did with my first. So we were there for six hours and they decide I don’t have enough labor signs and it was not amniotic fluid loss and I can go home. They said to take Tylenol and wait till my schedule C-section this Monday.

But I was also frustrated because I needed to eat something but I was afraid to in case I had the C-section, and I call my OB office just to see if I could eat something small since I knew it would still be a while till I went into the C-section and they said no don’t they’ll get you hooked up to an IV when you get there. Then after I had been in pre-admission for a few hours I get a little lecture about how it’s not good to not eat and that can make contractions worse and I said why would I eat if I thought I was going to have a C-section? Also my OB‘s office told me not to but luckily they started giving me IV fluid.

Finally, I was supposed to go down for preadmission and Covid testing today (Thursday), which I clearly didn’t do because I couldn’t drive with the contractions. The nurse looks at my prescription from my OB and said why were you coming today for preop if your C-section is not till Monday? I said that’s when my OB’s office scheduled it. She said if you would’ve came down we would’ve sent you home because blood work can only be saved for two days, you need to come back Saturday. They don’t know why they have scheduled me for Thursday.

Anyway, Tylenol seems to be helping the contractions and lost more of my mucus plug tonight and I really hope nothing else happens until my scheduled date Monday. As they told me if I have to come back or go into labor before my scheduled C-Section Monday I have to do preadmission all over again I can’t just go right into the C-section. This is why I know planned C-sections for medical issues are supposed to be done closer to the beginning of week 39 so I’m not having all this on and off labor it’s just very frustrating and I needed to vent.
