Do you think you can have a successful marriage if your political/religious views differ from your SO?

It depends entirely on HOW different you are.
For example, I couldn’t ever be with someone who supports trump, but I could be with someone who supported McCain or Romney or Bush. 
I couldn’t ever be with a catholic who insisted I go to church with him every Sunday or who would attempt to convert me to his religion, or who would shun homosexuals or whatever, but I could be with someone who was religious as long as they were respectful to others about it.
My husband is more agnostic, he wants to believe in god and heaven, but he doesn’t really fully believe in the existence. He takes an “I don’t know, we’ll find out eventually” approach. I’m more atheist. I just plain don’t believe in god. Neither of us want to force any type of religion on our children and won’t be the type to go to church, but we will support our children if they decide to follow a certain faith.
My husband is more independent and I’m more liberal Democrat. He wasn’t a huge fan of Obama, but I was. He was kind of interested in Trump’s candidacy when he first announced it, but the moment he opened his mouth and mocked a disabled person, he was out and said “fuck this guy.” 
My husband’s has many guns but is pro-regulation. I’m not exactly anti-gun but I don’t like them as much. I learned how to use them properly because I knew my husband wasn’t going to get rid of his when we moved in together, and if they were going to be in my house, I needed to know how to use them.
You can have differences and still make a relationship work, but not if you’re on vastly different scales.

My husband and I had VERY different political views in the beginning of our relationship and I actually didn’t know until we moved in together around the 2 year mark. Before then, it was really never brought up on his end. He very much respects his families opinion and they are incredibly conservative, so it wasn’t until I was going to Bernie rallies that my husband commented he agreed with his parents (they obviously hated Bernie lol). I’ll say though, he was never well researched in politics himself, and since we’ve taken the time to show and talk about the problems going on in our world, his mindset has changed a lot. I think he still feels wrong in a way for disagreeing with his family but we’ve had many conversations over the years and he’s definitely more aligned with me than his parents beliefs. Now it took a few years for us to be at this point, and this won’t be the case for everyone. Your partner may stay stuck in his beliefs and that’s when you have to decide if all of his other qualities outweigh that differences you have or if his beliefs are something you can’t budge on and that’s totally okay.

I think it depends. I think there are views and mindsets that I can tolerate- and ones I just can't long term- for me it's more about core values- and based on my last relationship, I don't want to date someone unintelligent. Ever. Again. 
If you are a science denier, conspiracy theorist, just, don't @ me. If you don't have any basis to understand epistemology or what heresay is or what counts as legitimate evidence, I don't want to date you.
My ex was very simple- and at first it was refreshing and cute- in the middle of a pandemic and protests- it is most assuredly NOT REFRESHING OR CUTE to have a partner who doesn't understand history, society or science AND doesn't care. 
But at least I dated someone nice for once. 
However, I am generally really open minded- and a lot of people are. 
My parents have different views and they're doing just fine. (Actually, similar setup, my mom more scientific, agnostic & liberal, my dad more religious & conservative- but my dad is very intelligent as well, moreso in the mathematical and mechanical ways & my mom is smarter about biology, medicine & literature.) 
After this entire rant- yes I think having different views can be a challenge, but not if you are truly mature and other socioeconomic factors are similar enough for you to make sense to each other.

Depends. Do your morals clash? Are you respectful about your differing views? If you disagree with their fundamental morals, no it won’t work. And if you can’t be respectful about the others views, then no it’s not going to work. 
Otherwise sure, you can have different views as long as you can agree on the major things that are super important to you, and when you do disagree you keep that level of respect.

I think it can work if it's religious views. Simply if you respect each other's religious views and practices. Now when it comes to political views, I feel like they need to be at least similar. The reason I see it this way is because there are a lot of political things that can effect families with kids and how women/girls get treated within that family and also a bunch of other stuff. Such as views on your local community, race, equal pay for employment, immigration... Etc. If political opinions are to different this can cause a lot of problems not only within your relationship but also within family bonds and such. Even if you have no kids together, it can still be a huge problem. I'm very lucky that I have a partner that has literally almost the exact political views as I do and that even though he isn't religious in any way, respects my religion.

Thanks everyone for your input! My husband and I have the same values but tend to view the world different. We respect each other’s opinions and this has never been an issue for us. However, sometimes I question how this may effect our relationship long term.  Guess it’s just me overthinking lol. Though, It’s nice to see how this dynamic has worked for others!

I think as long as they
Don't force ideologies on each other
Respect each other beliefs
Ideologies are humane(don't neglect rights)
it should work out.
Thats a lot of effort
And each person must put in that effort.
