Was I rude?

A friend of mine repeatedly told me that my newborn is cuter than my other child! First time she said it, I just laughed it over but she kept saying it. I wouldn’t have anyone make any of my children feel like they are not cute enough for them... my children are both beautiful!! so when she said it again, I told her off badly and I asked her to leave my house. Was I over the top?

Asking her to leave your house seems over the top. You could have addressed it more calmly by just saying both of your kids are wonderful and asking her to please keep comments about one being cuter than the other to herself. Maybe given her some type of warning that if she continues to make those comments you’ll have to ask her to leave so she knew you weren’t joking.

Yes and no, your friend was differently ridiculous for saying it over and over again. It was definitely crossing a line. That being said you probably could’ve said something to her about it calmly before resorting to cussing her out.

Yeah you were. You could have just nicely said something. You're right to not want her saying it but I'm sure she didn't have ill intent and just wasn't thinking it through. No need to lose your cool.

If that was your first outward objection to her, yeah it was over the top. But if you asked her more calmly to stop and she continued, it’s understandable. Either way, she was out of line; complimenting one child should never be at the expense of insulting another.

It’s very rude and over the top and shows awful communication skills if you just let it build up and build up until you were exploding like that. All you had to do was tell her to stop politely bc she wasn’t intentionally trying to be rude and then if she continued then maybe go off and kick her out. People need to stop letting stuff bother them until it’s their breaking point and speak up before then.

I don’t know. Maybe a little but I also don’t blame you for getting so upset. That’s just something you don’t say about a child EVER! I don’t see the point of her saying that over and over again.

I wouldn’t have jumped from laughing the first time to kicking her out of the house the second time. Probably would have been better if you just politely asked her to stop. “I’m so glad you think the baby is cute but I’d rather you not say things that compare the two kids.”

Yes and no. I don’t know what gives your friend the right to compare your children and think it’s okay to say. Kids are beautiful in their own way. The only thing I would have changed is you brushed it off the first time, the second time I would made it known i don’t appreciate that comment. If they do it after I said that, all bets are off lol.
