Okay so I suffer from tonsillitis the doctors always send me to a specialist saying I should get them removed and the specialist sends me home with a steroid saying maybe next time. I have been having a very slight cough and a sever sore throat. Ideas?

I would get tonsillitis every single year multiple times. I also had HUGE tonsils so any swelling nearly closed of my throat. I was supposed to get them out when I was 8 but we ended up moving so we had to wait until we had new insurance. Our new doctor wouldn’t diagnose it as tonsillitis - he would always test for strep and it was Never strep. I’ve never once had strep throat in my life. I finally found a new doctor and at a physical just asked her if taking them out was a possibility. She said yep sent me to an ENT and I had them out over Christmas break that year when I was 20. 
If you can find a new doctor!! Getting them out was the best thing I ever did!! I’m rarely sick now. 
The ENT I went to didn’t need a referral either I could have just called them and gone to see them.

I would see a different ENT. If this is a reoccurring issue, then I don’t understand why they don’t consider taking them out. My understanding is that they cannot do a tonsillectomy while you have an infection or inflammation, they have to wait for that to settle down first. But definitely see a different ENT because someday this could turn into abscessed tonsils and that will not be good. It happened to me and I ended up in an ambulance twice because it blocked my airways. Had to have the abscessed tonsils lanced and drained two nights in a row because it kept filling back up again, along with two rounds of intervenous antibiotics, and morphine for the pain. It is no joke and I am surprised that they are letting this go. After the infections went away, I was able to get a tonsillectomy, thank goodness.￼￼￼

You need to request to have removed. Do not wait.my cousin waited and waited and waited his actually ended up getting affected. He was 30 years old his tonsils started bleeding.

I suffered from chronic tonsillitis and ultimately had to have mine removed. My advise is to see a different ear, nose, and throat specialist. It can be difficult to get approved for a tonsillectomy because the recovery can be rough for adults and it’s just not as common of a procedure as it used to be. I had similar looking tonsils though. This is how mine ended up getting.

My surgeon told me he doesn’t often do tonsillectomies on adults but my tonsils were so swollen they started to block my airways. All I was ever told to help with the tonsillitis was to gargle with salt water. It didn’t help me, but that’s all I can suggest other than getting a second opinion.
