Do you recommend buying a car seat that grows with your child or buying a car seat per stage of baby life?

I preferred to have an infant seat when my son was a very small baby because it was easiest to be able to carry him places in the car seat, then upgraded to a Graco 4ever convertible car seat when he turned one. This car seat will last with him until he is done being in a car seat altogether as it converts all the way from infant to a booster seat and every stage in between.

Normally I would say it’s better to buy an infant seat first, but with the pandemic we’ve honestly only used our car seat a handful of times so I’d save your money and just get a nice convertible car seat. We used an infant seat with our first and it was handy, but he only stayed in it for 6 months before he outgrew it. I got carried away with my first and felt that I needed everything, but it truly isn’t necessary. I’ve learned it’s best to buy fewer things, but always buy the best quality that you can comfortably afford. We have a Nuna Rava and it can be used from birth. It’s great!

My LO refused to sleep in his infant car seat. He hated it. We switched him to his covertible seat (graco 4ever) at 8 weeks and he liked it way more. I did baby wearing whenever we went out. Worked best for us.

We have a infant bucket seat for 0 months to whenever he gets less floppy, so probably 6-8 months. We were gifted a convertible seat from our registry that we’ll probably begin using once it’s easier to take him in and out of the car.

We use an infant carrier until they grow out of it. With our son that was a year. With our daughter, I anticipate less use because she’s longer than he was. Then we move to the convertible seat until they are ready for a booster.

We’re the same as the others - starting with the infant bucket seat and planning to transition to the convertible. 
When they’re little it’s so hard to move them around to a car seat with just their bodies. I could manage it now with my 3 month old, but I’m going to use the bucket seat until I can’t anymore at this point. 
Additionally, having the bucket seat to hook onto a stroller is great because the regular seats won’t work for a baby. So it’s kinda a dual use win-win.

I recommend an infant carrier in the beginning and swapping to a convertible seat once baby can hold themselves up. It just makes it easier on you in my opinion.
