Prenatal Care Black & White
Currently reading up on statistics regarding maternal mortality rates in the US, and the numbers for Black women are astonishing. I was aware that Black women especially were at risk for complications from pregnancy & following birth because of institutional racism, but this is appalling. I’m wondering what y’all’s experiences were? White women, do you feel that you are listened to, heard, and given proper prenatal care? Black women, do you feel that you are also listened to, heard, and given proper prenatal care? Personally, I am a white woman, in my late 20’s and I feel like my doctor does a decent job of hearing me out and providing care, but there have been a few upsets along the way regarding my medications for HG. Nothing compared to what these women have gone through.
If anyone is interested in the article I am reading, it’s a USA Today article on yahoo.
The headline: “Without an 'ounce of empathy': Their stories show the dangers of being Black and pregnant”
It’s an informative read for sure, hoping to spread the message because everyone deserves to have trustworthy prenatal & postnatal care.
