Should Woodward be held accountable for waiting to release the interview taps with Trump?

I am a little surprised this isn't in CC yet.
Bob Woodward recorded several interviews with Trump for his book "Rage". During the interviews Trump said that he knew how bad COVID 19 was and that he was downplaying it on purpose. "I wanted to play it down. I still like playing it down. Because I don't want to create a panic." Trump on 3/19/2020.
Should Woodward have come out with those interviews as soon as possible?
In my opinion he should have. I think it would have pushed the Trump administration to take more preventative action. Possibly saving 10s of thousands of lives. The US could have had a stronger shutdown/quarantine and then reopened a lot sooner. 
*Edit: I of course Trump is responsible. I thought that part went without saying. Maybe "held accountable" is not the right way to say it.

I'm not convinced that there's anything particularly startling about this "revelation". Everybody already knew Trump was lying and minimizing the seriousness of the pandemic. People were speculating from the beginning that he knew, so this is hardly a shock. Woodard is as much an opportunist as anyone else and waited to publish until he knew his book would make the most money and have maximum influence over the election. I don't buy his argument that he felt the need to confirm the things Trump said. That's too pat of an answer and just comes off as a weak attempt to cover his own backside. Whether or not Trump lied, which everyone knew, or should have known, he did and does constantly anyway, most states took action independently well ahead of him, so I'm not sure how much difference a stronger response from the White House would have had on the virus' impact on the nation as a whole. Perhaps Republican governors in some states would have taken action sooner if their idol in the White House had been more serious-minded about it, but maybe not.

I think he should have released the tapes sooner, sadly I don't think it would have changed much. 
It isn't really a shock to anyone that Trump was ignoring the pandemic. The State Governors all started their own lock downs independently many of them before there was any Federal action.

To most, this was common knowledge. The man said we should do less tests for lower numbers for god sakes. 
But the biggest thing this confirms (and even trump supporters should see clear as day) that this man doesn’t give a rats asssss about you. Just your vote. Him down playing this pandemic has killed thousands. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “well trump doesn’t wear a mask so..” “trump doesn’t think a shut down is necessary so...” 
HE ADMITTED HE PURPOSELY DOWN PLAYING AN ILLNESS THAT KILLED YOUR GRANDMOTHER, GRANDPA, AUNT, UNCLE, FRIEND, PARENT. 
He didn’t want to cause mass panic. Instead he singlehandedly causes mass confusion and kick started a fucking mask debate. All because he didn’t want this to effect his re-election.

I don't think it would have made any difference. Notice how no one is surprised. Everyone knew that it was going to be bad and that the states would all be on their own. States were fighting over PPE and ventilators and making foreign deals. Trump said himself that he didn't want testing because it would make him look bad. It kind of looked like the whole plan was to let lots of people die because they though it would mostly kill democrat voters. Cause you know viruses really care about your politics. 
No one is even bothering to call BS on not wanting to cause panic. He loves to cause panic, it's like his whole platform. "Bus loads of Antifa!" "Caravans of immigrants!" "Low income housing will destroy the suburbs!" "Liberal cities are burning!" "Riots and Looting!" Funny enough the scary left didn't do any of those things but the Trump supporters sure did. 
So I think Woodward was self serving but I don't think he is responsible.

Honestly most whistleblowers have to wait for everything to pile up before telling anything. Honestly trump kept lying anyway even when being called out about the tape in a press co Terence so do you honestly think he would have changed his stance? I dont

Bob Woodward should not be accountable for doing the President’s job. When Trump first knew in January about this deadly virus he had every tool at his disposal to shut down, but he didn’t want to and it has cost life after life. Truthfully,I feel like if he would’ve shut down in February we wouldn’t be going through what we are going through. Also, the reason why no one is surprised is because we are now collectively traumatized and desensitized by the overwhelming amount of bad news happening ALL THE TIME. But make no qualms,  this is a huge deal and I can’t wait until the shock wears off.

Remember that this came on the tail end of his impeachment where those who spoke out against him suffered retaliation.  I don’t think it would have been a good idea to release it then. It would have been spun and dismissed, much like it is now - except the revelation is more effective now than it would have been then.  The shock would have worn off before the election; albeit, it likely it still will for most Trump supporters.
We should be holding Trump and the relevant government employees accountable for their actions/inaction, and appreciate that we were ever informed at all.  Thank you journalism!
