Something good coming out of something bad

St

So the year 2020 has been a constant shit show of misery in one way or another for most people. If you are a human, especially in the usa, and have been untouched by this year I would like to meet you because you are as rare as a unicorn. I live in Oregon...our state has literally exploded with fires and added to the mass burning of the entire was coast of North America. 500K+ people in my state are under evacuation orders, thousands lost everything when they were forced to flee middle of the night with no notice, there have been human losses, and conspiracy theories/lies are running rampant. But the majority of the state, especially my home community where I have been for a few months taking care of a family member, has pulled together to help out everyone even when this year has cost so many people so much. Thousands of lbs of food, water, hygiene products, clothes, tents, tarps, pet food, medical supplies, toys...you name it have been gathered in less than a week. People are volunteering their land and businesses for evacuees, offering their trailers to help save farm animals, people offering to foster pets, and restaurants/food trucks offering completely free meals to evacuees/fire fighters. We are not even close to out of the woods and are seriously under manned on the fire lines but my state is stepping up and taking care of each other. The situation is awful and it will take so much more to recover...especially with how little national news coverage a lot of the fires out west get but is amazing to see the response. Just a reminder that while we are all different and the world is divided when things happen people will help still even if they don't agree. So stay safe everyone in the west and thank you to anyone who has helped. I will keep helping and know everyone else will too.
