For my mammas that have had an ectopic pregnancy, how far along were you when you found out?

I had one around 5 weeks about a year ago. I had some light spotting for a few days with no other symptoms. I woke up one morning with some cramping and just assumed I was probably having a miscarriage but as the day progressed the pain increased and became one sided and was so bad I thought I was going to vomit/pass out. I had to have emergency surgery that evening.

I was told by my midwife that ectopic pregnancies dont go past 6 weeks (8 at the most) before rupturing the fallopian tube, requiring surgery. But I have no personal experience with this.

Started with light lower abdominal side cramping with some “bottom” pressure similar to gas/constipation pressure. By a few hours later, the cramping was unbearable to the point of nausea/vomiting. Had to go to the ER and get morphine to help with the pain - it was so severe. Surgery the next day.
