Are Pap smears safe during early pregnancy?

My doctor reminded me that I was due for mine as I’ve never had one and I’m not sure if I should bc I’m 5 weeks pregnant

In the UK it's not recommended due to results often being wrong whilst pregnant. I'm due mine but now will have it at my 8 week post check up.

i had one in June and got pregnant in July, so they did not check me. it’s not like i wanted them to touch me anyway. i heard if it’s past due they will need to check you, if you’re having abnormal bleeding/spotting as well. what i do know that you will have light bleeding bc of a Pap smear and it will feel comfortable, sometimes hurt. ask your doctor if there’s another way to go around it? can she just test you w blood since you don’t want to be touched down there? it is your body. up to you.

sure but they tend not to act on any positive HPV result until after delivery. Personally I don’t see the point in potentially causing yourself stress when you can just have it done postnatally

Yes. All it is is making sure everything looks right, swabbing the cervix to make sure there aren't abnormal cells or infections, and palpating (feeling, it doesn't hurt) to make sure your uterus is where it's supposed to be.
