Dating a doctor/resident?

Hey, advice please!
I started talking to a guy a couple of months ago - he's a doctor 3 years into his 5 year residency at the hospital and also studying for a phd. We had a couple of phonecalls, then he text most days before we met in person a couple of weeks ago. The date went really well - however he's now not contacting as much, and can take days to reply.. but when he does reach out.. the messages are really warm. Can any doctors, or women with doctors let me know if it is a busy thing (I get the role is demanding) or if he just not that interested? Any advice is appreciated, thank you! X

Only way you’ll know for sure is to ask home. But yeah residency is insane. Residents can work upward of 80 hours a week at times, with 30+ hour shifts. I met my husband when I was a resident and sometimes I’m surprised we survived those years.

I'm a RN in a hospital. Residents work a ton of hours. Its kinda insane. They have long shifts and many in a row. He likely is in a long stretch at the hospital.
But- ask him! Chances are he is just busy. But it never hurts to ask

My husband is a doctor and part of the time he was in residency we were doing the long distance thing. Residency is rough. He would have 24hr shifts sometimes. When he would come home, he would need sleep. Even once we were living together there would be weeks when he would only spend one or two nights sleeping at home. 
Cut your guy some slack and talk to him when he has gets a chance. I'm sure he will happily complain to you about his exhausting schedule. Just make sure you're willing to deal with that lifestyle for a while, and the long hours after residency too.

I work in HR and work directly with Residents. They work tons of hours, on call, weird hours, lots of rotations. I’m sure he has not lost interest, but instead just been very very busy.

Residency is INSANE. It sounds like he’s a sweetheart when he is in touch, so be grateful for him making the time when he can. My sister is a new PA - she said the doctors in their residencies work like 80 hour weeks if not more. Some hospitals had to pass laws to limit the amount they had them working. But yeah, it’s a ton of work. Even once he’s done with his residency, doctors can work grueling schedules or crazy hours, so think now about if you’d be able to work with that in the long term.

I’d definitely say he’s just busy, he works long shifts and it’s also during a pandemic so I’m sure it’s even crazier than normal right now.

I’d say he is probably extremely busy but there’s no way he shouldn’t be able to send a short quick text here and there. I could understand not responding all day. Not reaching out for days seems off and like he isn’t extremely interested in my opinion.
