Is this normal?

So I just started breastfeeding my 1 week and 3 day old and he falls asleep after 5 minutes of being on one boob. He’ll wake up an hour later hungry again and does the same thing. Is this normal? I started with formula at first since he wouldn’t latch for a while and now have to use a shield. He usually takes almost 3 oz on formula so I’m confused. When I pump I only get ￼1.1 oz out of both breasts combined so I’m not sure if he’s getting enough. I’m new to all of this.

My baby has always fed for a few minutes every hour. It's just her schedule. And I have an oversupply, so I know it's not a supply issue. Plus, you don't get as much with the pump as your baby gets. As long as they have enough wet and dirty diapers, it'll be okay. Also, your baby will feed more frequently to help increase your supply, so keep feeding them on demand and they'll get enough.

Mine was ALWAYS falling asleep. Made it hard for her to gain weight. Tickle feet, blow on their face, tickle the neck, hold their hand, take off clothes, and when all else fails... ice! 😂🥶

It is normal but try to keep him awake so he feeds properly. Strip his clothes off so he is a bit cooler, tickle his toes etc

Must be normal bc my baby falls asleep on my boob all the time. He’ll either nurse for an hour (uses me as a binky) or nurse for 5 minutes and then he’ll want to nurse again 20 minutes later. I started off pumping and I would pump 36 to 40 oz a day, and he would feed every two hours on the dot, about 3 oz as well. In a way I’m tempted to go back to exclusively pumping again due to the convenience and  you can see how much your baby is consuming. I’m slowly cutting back on nursing sessions and doing more bottles. I’ll still nurse him a couple of times a day just to keep my supply up. He prefers my right boob and that one produced almost 7 ounces while the one that he doesn’t feed on only got like 2 ounces so nursing does help with supply!

All normal, let baby nurse as long and as often as baby wants. 
It cannot be stressed enough that the amount of milk you able to pump is NOT ever a reliable indicator of how much milk you are producing, nor how much milk baby is taking in. The healthy breastfed baby is usually much more efficient at getting milk from the breast than a pump is. Keep in mind that the average mom who is pumping between breastfeeding sessions can express between ONE and THREE oz per pumping session (not per breast, per session).

Also if you continue giving formula be sure to pace feed!
