Natural unmedicated birth story

Tessa

I started having contractions at 2 am, woke up at 6:30am to pee and had my bloody show. Labored all day at home, called the doula when I was having problems coping and she arrived at 7:30pm. 10pm we headed to the birthing center as my contractions were consistently 70 seconds long and 4 minutes apart. We get their and im only 3 cm! So they gave me an hour and a half to progress and I did not so they sent us home around midnight.

The doula took a nap in our guest room while I tried to sleep but had to have my husband apply counter pressure to my back and remind me to breath through the pain. Then the doula woke me up to check on me (mid-contraction) around 5:30am and I immediately threw up in my mouth 4 times before making it to the bathroom sink where I threw up everything in my system to the point of dry heaving and peeing myself. At that point I was having increased difficulty coping with the pains and my doula said that its time to go back to the birthing center.

We get there around 6am and I am 7 cm dilated and I was getting tired as I hadn't slept much in 24 hours. So they had me spend an hour on my right side and an hour on my left side with a peanut ball to encouage my little baby girl to turn to a better birthing position. At this point i kept saying "where are my drugs" and "I can't take it anymore". The doula convinced me to try to pee where my water broke.

I was already pushing and grunting through each contraction so they moved me to the birth pool. This is where my amazing husband really stepped up. He was on his knees outside of the pool and I was on my knees, we were facing each other, forehead to forehead and opposite hands held pulling against each other as he encouraged me to push with everything I have.

During pushing i asked my midwife "is she crowining" and she said "no shes 2 cms away". Next thing I hear through all my grunting and pushing is "theirs a nose! Here's her chin!" After that contraction was over she said "her shoulders are out we just need one more big push!" And baby girl was out at 12:21 pm! 36 hours of labor and 43 minutes of pushing. All natural, no pain medications. Mamas it was fricken hard!!! I didn't think I could do it but with the help of my doula and amazing husband I did it!

We were discharged from the birthing center 3 hours after the placenta was delived and they even went out to buy us food to eat (of our choice) before we left!

My baby girl was born at 40 weeks +2 at 8 lbs 1 oz and 18.5 inches long. We are home now, learning to breastfeed and soaking up skin to skin time!
