Is this safe?

Baby is a week old.. can I have a glass of wine? I am breastfeeding and will have some pumped milk ready for baby to have at her next feeding.

Absolutely. My lactation consultant said that pumping and dumping is completely unnecessary. A very minute amount of alcohol reaches breastmilk from a single drink. If you can’t feel anything from the drink, your baby won’t either.

Alcohol is only in your milk for as long as you feel drunk. No need to pump and dump.

Absolutely. If you’re not drunk/could still drive/function to hold your baby you can still nurse

Yup. I drink a glass after feeding and then feed again when I need to. Never pumped

Yessss! Just wait 2-3h per drink to breastfeed again. Pumping does not get rid of the alcohol, it will still circulate through until it’s metabolized. Only pump and dump if you’re getting engorged/to keep up your supply.

Our pediatrician said if you can drive, you can breastfeed :) so one or two drinks is fine. On another note, if alcohol is in your blood, its in the milk. Pumping and dumping does not rid your milk of alcohol.
