Grandparents want time just with grandchild? No parents allowed?

My parents are visiting from another province over and being their only grandchild that they don’t see all the time they want to spend every waking moment with him. Fine whatever but now they keep saying they want to take him on a road trip no parents just them. Not far I’d imagine but I’m just not comfortable with it. I ask why cant I come and they get all offended saying they just want time with him. Should I just chill?

I think this isn’t something we could weigh in on without a lot of background. Personally, I would probably say yes to my in laws because they make a big effort to be a part of my kids lives. They can bend the rules a bit lol, but they stick to the big ones enough that I would trust them to do something like this. 
So assuming the relationship and trust is there, I don’t think it’s weird they want to do a little trip with just the baby. Grandparents want bonding time with their grandchildren and it’s harder when mom or dad is there 🤷🏼‍♀️ To me it’s no different than saying to my sister that I want to take my niece out and do XYZ with her, just us girls.

I would say I’ll leave for an overnight road trip and you guys can stay home with your grandchild. I’d feel far more comfortable having them stay home. If it’s a toddler or younger, that would be asking too much to take the child on a road trip.

If you aren’t comfortable I would say no. My MIL recently passed but I would never leave my daughter alone with my in-laws. I have seen my FIL slap both of my nieces and my MIL would say that our rules don’t suit her and she knows best so she wouldn’t follow them. 
Your relationship with your in-laws is more important than your kids relationship with them. Sometimes young kids are just initially scared with ANYONE other than the parents, but can get comfortable. 
From your replies you seem hesitant so I would say have them come to your house and have a spa day then a nice date with hubby. Give them a couple hours and see how it goes. Hopefully you can trust they won’t just take the kid somewhere!

I don’t think you are overreacting. My daughter is 15 months old and I haven’t even let her sleep over her grandparents house. 
My husband and I wont even let her in the pool alone with her grandparents lol.

I think it’s weird that theyre asking. Offer to run an errand while they stay at your house maybe? That’s the most they’d get from me.

How old is your little one? Would he be comfortable without you? Has he spent enough time with them in the past (with you present) to build a relationship with them? If not, maybe suggest grandparents day out, where they can take him on a day trip and get their alone time with him, but not somewhere overnight.
