Time for first dentist appointment?

How old was your LO when they had their first dentist appointment? My LO is 6 1/2 months old and has her first tooth in, so at her 6 month check-up i asked our pediatrician and she said not until she is 2 years old? Is that typical? Seems like a long time to wait to me but i’m a first time mom who knows nothing about it lol 😆

My pedi and dentist both said not until age 3. Because all teeth should be in by then and they understand what a person is doing to their mouth and are more willing to open their mouth. Unless problems arise then it’s unnecessary before that.

My dentist told me unless you have concerns you don't really have to until 3 years old. Obviously make sure your wiping gums and brush teeth once they pop out. My son's going to be 3 by the end of the year and hasn't gone yet but I'm planning on taking him after his birthday.

My daughter was 3. She had no visual abnormalities so her pediatrician said 3 was okay

That doesn’t seem typical for my area. Our first check up was at 1 yr old but he also went at 6 months bc he had a fall and busted his mouth:

I brought my girl in at 9 months. It's recommended by aapd to go within 6 months of the first tooth or first birthday whichever comes first. Doctors say 2+ but I've known children that age with cavities already and needing their teeth surgically removed. So, personally I would not listen to that advice. But plenty of people take their kids around 2-3 and are fine

I took my daughter at age 1 and she did fine. My son is going to be tough because he's 10 months and already hates me looking or feeling in his mouth so I may have to wait a bit longer for him.

My pediatric dentist doesn't see them until 2 unless they have a cavity or other reason they need to be seen. And my pediatrician has always told me to wait until all their teeth are in before taking them unless they have an issue.
